At a time when our world is awash with hate, including the dramatic increase in incidents of antisemitism what are our best strategies for protecting our communities. Long before these current days of increased antisemitism, Jewish history has had many periods when anti-Jewish hatred endangered our ancestors’ lives. While there are now vaccines for COVID, we have no vaccine for hate. We will explore ancient and modern responses to anti-Jewish racism along with some of the forms of racism that live within our communities. Rabbi Hillel famously said that the essence of Judaism is “what is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor...” However, we know that’s easier said than done.
